SCHOOL VOLUNTEER PROGRAM POLICIES AND GUIDELINES

In order to be an effective and successful school volunteer, there are some important policies and guidelines you must understand and follow.

REGISTRATION: Please take a moment to fill out our In-House Volunteer Information Form.
You must also complete and sign a Miami-Dade County Public School's VOLUNTEER PROGRAM REGISTRATION FORM before being placed as a school volunteer.
ATTENDANCE:  You must always sign in and out at the front office. Be prompt and dependable. Stay the entire time for which you have committed. If an illness or emergency arises, please notify the office to inform the teacher/students(s) of your absence. This will prevent disappointment and disruption of schedules.
IDENTIFICATION: Wear a designated badge (such as the School Volunteer button) while you are volunteering.
DRESS: Your appearance in dress should be appropriate and comfortable for any task that may be planned. Students will look to you as a role model.
DIRECTION: Accept direction/supervision from your designated supervisor. Remember, you are not a staff member, but a supplementary person who offers assistance/enrichment with your own personal skills and talents. Be consistent in adhering to the school's policies and regulations, as well as to established rules for classroom behavior, schedule and atmosphere. Ask for help when needed.
PLACEMENT: If you find your placement unacceptable and you are hesitant to discuss this with your assigned teacher, please speak with the school-site volunteer liaison, or telephone the District School Volunteer Office at 305 995-1215. Be willing to be reassigned when placement is not mutually acceptable.
SUGGESTIONS: Your suggestions are always welcome. Share your ideas with your teacher or staff members, but be prepared to accept their judgment in certain matters.
CONFIDENTIALITY Respect the confidential nature of anything you see, hear, or are told. Share any concerns you may have with only those in authority at the school before leaving the building for the day.
